Prunus serrula

Magnificent copper sheen of Prunus serrula bark.

This stunning Prunus species is offered by the nursery as a tree in its own right, but is also used as a rootstock for some varieties of flowering cherries that are 'high-worked' (grafted onto standards). In this way the trunk is an added feature of the tree - the spectacular spring blossom contrasting vividly with the copper-bronze sheen of the Prunus serrula bark.
